Old Boys Clapham FC

Old Boys Clapham Reserves finished the 2013/14 on a

high winning the SSECL Junior Division 1 on goal

difference from Shaftesbury Town. A defensive display

saw OBCR slip to a 2-1 defeat to Shaftesbury Town but

Peter Atkinson’s first half goal all but ended the contest.

Elsewhere the first team beat Cheam Village Warriors 1-0

as Mike Breen’s early wonder strike separated the two

sides. The first team finished a respectable though

disappointing 4^th place in SSECL Intermediate Division

One.

But for the Reserves it has been an excellent campaign

and the league title represents their first title having been

runners-up in two cup finals last season. Well done Alex

McGreevy, Mel Kenny and all of the players who made the

achievement possible.

Old Boys Clapham FC will return in July for 2014/15 pre-

season and next season will see the creation of a third

team to give more local young people the opportunity to

play and get into organised adult football. For more

Old Boys Clapham returned victorious from Germany thanks to a 8-4 win in 35 degree tempratures as both sides struggled with the heat. Peter Atkinson opened the scoring early before Mike Breen added two further goals to give us a 3-0 half time lead. As players tired under the extreme heat and the goals flooded through as the team exchanged blow for blow in the second half. Andy Dundas was moved to right back to snuff out Berlin's main threat but the unexpected result was that Dundas was able to turn defence into attack and he hit a top class hatrick before Breen added his third of the game. Local lad turned OBC player, Philippe Sommer wrapped things up with a fine goal in front of his watching parents who I am sure were very proud of him.

OBC are pleased to announce that Timex along with Radcliffe & Newlands will sponsor the club for the 2014/15 season. Timex's support will help put OBC coaches through their FA coaching badges which will help the club's training and development. OBC's change top will have Timex's logo on our shirts. The change colours will be red tops, white or black shorts with white or black socks.

Old Boys Clapham FC took part in BBC One's The One Show to show us as a grass roots amateur club looking forward to the World Cup in Brazil. Regular feature participant to the show Dan Donnelly interviewed Mel Kenny, Paul Lewis and Alex McGreevy and the rest of the boys at the Roebuck pub in Vauxhall. Also in attendance were some local Brazilian dancing girls who showed us their exotic moves as samba flair was introduced to the players. Brazilian food was on the menu as the lads partied to the small hours. What a way to prepare for the World Cup and pre-season. Catch the show on BBC1 on [date to be announced].
